The VC-10 has had a long association with Filton. Some VC-10 parts were built at Filton, but the biggest link to Filton was the conversion of ex-Airline VC-10s to tankers for the RAF. There were two contracts, the first in the early 1980's for a batch of nine ex Gulf Air and East African Airways VC-10s, which were converted to K.2's and K.3's. The second was for a batch of 5 ex-British Airways Super VC-10s in the early 1990's, which were converted to K.4's.
